Cancelling an internet or TV subscription by fax

Telling the call center "cancel" is often not enough — providers ask for a written request, and every day of delay gets billed. Faxing a signed cancellation letter is the most reliable way to lock in your cancellation date.

  1. 1
    Check your commitment status
Cancelling before the commitment ends may trigger an early-exit fee. Note your commitment end date from your online account.
  2. 2
    Write the cancellation letter
Include your subscriber number, service address, ID number and the sentence "I request cancellation effective …". Sign it.
  3. 3
Attach a copy of your ID
Most providers require identity verification for cancellation; send a copy of the front of your ID with the letter.
  4. 4
Fax the subscriber center and confirm
Cancellation requests must be processed within days. Your fax receipt plus the call record is evidence in any billing dispute.
